Volunteer portal, Telemark Botanical Society

Large number of specimens in the Natural History Museums remain un-digitized and are not yet available in electronic form. The Volunteer Portal is a citizen science project where amateur naturalists are invited to contribute to the electronic registration of herbarium collections. Telemark Botanical Society will help us to test and explore the Volunteer Portal.

We are (preliminary) planning a workshop on 3rd of May at Menstad ungdomsskole in Skien to demonstrate the Volunteer Portal to invited members from the Telemark Botanical Society.

Agenda:

17:30 Presentation of the Volunteer Portal and how UiO: Natural History Museum in Oslo are working on digitizing the herbarium collections (Emily Oswald)

17:40 Information about digitization of herbarium specimens at the Natural History Museum in Oslo (Bjørn Petter Løfall)

17:50 How will the results from the Volunteer Portal become openly and freely available online for the members of the Telemark Botanical Society (and others). Open publication of biodiversity information in GBIF and the Norwegian Species Information Service (Artskart) (Dag Endresen)

The Cultural Heritage Mediascapes project will deepen our understanding of how digitization and participatory models are transforming knowledge practices in museums and archives. The Mediascapes start-up meeting was in September 2016 and the project will continue through to the end of 2018.
