More about the CESP mentoring project: Tajikistan has recently joined GBIF as an associate participant. There are significant stories of biodiversity information held in specimen collections in Tajikistan, but there are currently no Tajik institutions publishing biodiversity data. With this project, the Norwegian GBIF node will support and mentor the new Tajikistan node and kick-start the data publication process in Tajikistan. We will focus on data from the Herbarium founded by the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics (IBPPG, NAST). There are more than 200,000 plant specimens, some almost 150 years old, including 28,000 ferns, 15,000 lichens, and more than 15,000 algae, which are common in the Pamir-Alay (Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan). We plan to publish 10,000 data records during this project.
