The Barents Sea bottom trawl survey (BTS) targets demersal fish and benthic invertebrates but underrepresents pelagic, cryptic, or fast-swimming species due to gear limitations. Geographical gaps exist in nearshore, deep slope, and ice-covered areas, and temporal resolution is limited to late summer sampling, missing seasonal variability.

About 12000 species occurrence records for BTS and about 5000 species occurrence records for eDNA will be published by September 2026.

Project leader is Daniel Kumazawa Morais.
